Labour markets remain mixed in Canada’s census metropolitan areas. According to Signal49 Research’s Help-Wanted Index, near-term employment prospects remain down in over half of the 27 census metropolitan areas (CMAs) covered in this report. In fact, the Help-Wanted Index suggests that near-term employment prospects are down in 15 CMAs, stable in three, and up in only nine. Of the nine CMAs with positive employment growth prospects, only one (Regina) is located in Western Canada. The other eight markets are located in Atlantic Canada, Quebec, and Ontario. This would suggest that labour markets in many CMAs, especially in Western Canada, are not yet out of the woods.
