Canada’s productivity and competitiveness are slipping, partly due to a leadership vacuum in one area: the taking of new products and services to market. Signal49 Research, under the leadership of the Leaders’ Roundtable on Commercialization (LRTC), has developed a national vision and strategic plan to improve innovation-based commerce in Canada. This briefing outlines the six elements of the strategy: national priorities, skilled people, research and linkages, investment and risk capital, knowledge-based clusters and supply chains, and national programs and capacities. It also briefly discusses the need to focus our efforts and set priorities in this area, and the qualities of effective indicators of our progress.
