Canada’s productivity and competitiveness are slipping, partly due to a leadership vacuum in one area: the taking of new products and services to market. Signal49 Research, under the leadership of the Leaders’ Roundtable on Commercialization (LRTC), has developed a national vision and strategic plan to improve innovation-based commerce in Canada. This report outlines the strategy.

The strategy suggests that we focus our limited resources on selected priorities, chosen based on quantitative evidence of excellence and opportunity. The strategy articulates measurable targets and calls for actions by all players in the economy on six elements: national priorities, skilled people, research and linkages, investment and risk capital, knowledge-based clusters and supply chains, and national programs and capacities. The strategy also calls on Signal49 Research to continue to help drive action and monitor progress. The expected result over time will be global-best commerce, leading to sustainable national prosperity.
