Online and blended learning presents advantages to institutions of higher education that are able to successfully incorporate new technologies into their processes. Although a comparative late-comer to online learning, Université Laval has ramped up quickly and is now the largest provider of online higher education in French-speaking Canada and one of the largest in Canada as a whole.
With an empowered distance education office, the enthusiasm of key professors, and the support of senior leadership, Laval has unlocked many benefits that come with the successful adoption of an online learning program. These include improved financial sustainability, greater accessibility of education, and a range of pedagogical benefits that are just beginning to be understood.
