Canada’s community pharmacy sector is unique, providing health care to residents in a retail setting. It contributes to Canada’s wealth several ways: it improves health outcomes, creates efficiencies in the broader health care system, and creates jobs.
The direct economic footprint of the sector is the portion of Canada’s overall gross domestic product (GDP), employment, and labour income that is linked to the activities of the pharmacy sector. With about 300 community pharmacies in Nova Scotia, the pharmacy sector provides significant contributions to GDP, income, and jobs in Nova Scotia and to the rest of Canada.
